Organic Shea Butter (Butyrosperum Parkii): Used for centuries as a skin treatment in Africa, the benefits of shea butter are now widely known throughout the world. Possessing anti-inflammatory, humectant and emollient properties our organic shea butter is the perfect base for BerryBalm. Shea butter is loaded with skin nourishing fatty acids, specifically linoleic and oleic acids. Shea butter also contains the compound Lupeol which helps to prevent the effects of aging by inhibiting enzymes that degrade skin proteins. We also like the fact that shea butter has shown the capacity to absorb UV radiation.
Organic Grape Seed Oil (Vitis Vinifera): An excellent source of linoleic acid, various phenols and rich in Tocopherols, a natural form of Vitamin E, grape seed oil makes for a great moisturizer. Our grape seed oil helps to produce silky-smooth lips.
Organic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil (Olea Europaea): Beginning with the Ancient Egyptians, olive oil has been hailed for its extraordinary health and beauty benefits. We use an organic extra-virgin variety because for our product, only the best will suffice.
Black Aronia (Aronia Melanocarpa): The ingredient that started it all! Aronia is currently being studied by major universities and labs in the United States and around the world. We use Berry Naturals' proprietary blend of black Aronia: Nutronia™. In a 2007 USDA finding the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbency Content) value of Aronia was found to be the highest of all fruits tested, scoring several times higher than blueberries, black currants and pomegranate. In addition to being a potent provider of antioxidants, Aronia displays anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.
Organic Manuka Honey (Leptospernum Scoparium): A unique honey only produced in New Zealand, the properties of manuka honey are well researched. Manuka honey displays excellent healing and anti-bacterial properties. It is used to treat skin ulcers, wounds and burns. Honey has a long shelf life so it acts as a natural preservative. We love this essential ingredient for all the above reasons and because it adds a naturally sweet taste and aroma to BerryBalm.
Vitamin E (Tocopheryl): One of the most well known antioxidants, Vitamin E helps protect cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. While several of our ingredients contain natural form Vitamin E, we chose to add it to our balm to help protect against daily environmental stresses such as sun exposure, cigarette smoke and pollution.
Organic Cocoa Seed Butter (Theobroma Cacao): A natural stable fat that blends supremely well with our other ingredients and loaded with antioxidants, cocoa butter protects and nourishes skin. Not only does our cocoa butter add a velvety texture to our balm, its natural aroma blends well with other ingredients to produce BerryBalm's soothing signature scent.
Organic Beeswax (Cera Aloa): We thank hardworking bees for providing this great ingredient. Bees wax enables us to produce our balm without the use of petroleum or other chemical products. Your lips will thank you.
